Why do I as a black women have to shop elsewhere, for my hair & cosmetic products in multicultural London?

I saw all kinds of stuff at Boots though. Right? I thought I saw things everywhere. Anywayz.Why do I as a black women have to shop elsewhere, for my hair %26amp; cosmetic products in multicultural London?

Selfridges, Debenhams etc all have the Iman and Mac range of cosmetics that cater for dark skin tones. Iman is a black woman catering for black women so I recommend you have a look at her range of products.





As for hair, when it comes hair products, they are definitely available, you just need to know what you're looking for. A lot of products these days are now addressing Afro-carribean hair. It will take a while to read the labels to find the right product for the effect you want, but they are there. Boots superstores tend to have a good range.





As for braiding, only a place that specialises in braiding will ever do a decent job. It just so happens that braiding salons are run by black people - because they know how to do it better than anyone else.





In my opinion going to a specialist store for your hair and cosmetic needs, away from the main high street stores is better. They are cheaper and you get better expertise. you can shop at super drugs, i was amazed the othe day when i found dark and lovely in there, but other wise in london there is a range of shops that specialise in afro-hair products, i''ve got a choice of 3 shops in leicester, when i live in loughborugh there was none. its wrong and what about the food products u can find asian, italian, mexican and spanish etc etc, but afro-carribean wheres that???????????? it's not just london its the whole of england !!!





And its not just due to the amount of poeple that live in the area leicester has a very large afro-carribean community but there is a lack of the product you can find here!
Hey!!! I agree with you, i am mixed race and i cannot find make up that caters for my skin tone to be honest i dont wear make up at all, simply because of the fact i cannot find any thing for my skin.





It is ridiculous, there are so many cosmetics for caucasian women,and a limited choice for us dark skinned beauties, even when i open up any fashion magazine, there are the Loreal, and Maybelline foundation sachets for caucasian skin, i am not being funny or anything, but the world is full of different cultures and skin tones, so why the hell arent there any make up sachets for dark skin it isnt on!!





I can walk into superdrug, boots, and other hair and beauty stores, and you will get a shelf full of blonde products, such as John Frieda and Toni and Guy, and there are never any products for Afro Hair, and i have to go to Birmingham to purchase such products it is unbelievable!





I walked into Toni and Guy and asked if they style Afro Hair, they look bewildered,the person i spoke to asked assistant if they can style my hair, what do i get? a no, we dont!! thats unacceptable, if you are a fully trained, and qualified hair dresser, you should be able to style any type of hair!





I know where you are coming from and it isnt on, it is frustrating that in 2006, there is such a limited range of beauty products for dark skinned women in the mainstream market, and seeing as we are a multicultural society, these beauty companies need to up their game and give US a wider choice!!!





Its not like we are looking for the sympathy vote here, we are being excluded from the mainstream cosmetic and hair industry, what is going on?

Gee, sounds like a marketing opportunity. Is this something you or one or more of your friends might be interested in looking into? A little shoppe someplace with the best of black hair care and cosmetics from around the world?
because u choose to. you can go to boots and superdrugs to buy hair and cosmetic products. I go to hair salons to buy my hair products eg: ghd, paul mitchell, kerastase.





just because you are black does not mean that you have to trek around london to buy beauty and hair products. but you do so because you want to I have great hair and skin and dont black only products.
Are you saying there is nowhere in London where you can buy hair products and cosmetics ? Selfridges, Oxford Street have the largest Cosmetic Hall in Europe, and brands like Mac - which are very popular with black women - have displays the size of a normal shop. I was there 2 months ago, and it happened that most assistants on the Mac counter were black. The ranges of most international cosmetics companies have shades for every human hue - why ? Because they are businesses, they want to sell to you, they want your money. For more esoteric products, the Stroud Green Road, Brixton and loads of other inner London suburbs have heaps of African and Asian hair products and cosmetics.





Racism exists and must be resisted where we find it. But don't go looking for it.
OMGOOODNESS.. i was asking this saaamme question the other day...its jus not fair, but hey its starting to change, i mean tesco now sell dark and lovely relaxer...thats an improvement right, but then again black people are seen as the underdogs (and i aint tryna start a debate) so why would anyone want to accomodate us...?
Good question ya know that they are classifying it as coarse textured hair instead of African American hair instead now days, so you should be able to find it anywhere hair products are sold.

There are shops all over the place in London that deal entirely in afro-Caribbean hair products. Most of the hairdressers outside the one mile radius of central London are now occupied by Afro-Caribbean hairdressers.


Boots, super-drugs %26amp; even many smaller establishments cater for Afro-Caribbean hair also. I reckon you must be walking around with your eyes closed Babe.
Same reason white women do.
Because black women do not need makeup and there hair is already curly so why would you need to do your hair in my opinion i think black women are lucky they are all ready dark so they do not need makeup and their hair is perfect.What more do you want?

In Harrow there are heaps of places you can get the stuff. Because the make up (pun?) of the community allows for it.

If you as a black person need the product and there is demand it will be met. If not it won't. Same applies worldwide methinks.
