Is the Benefit Cosmetics Bathina Set worth it?

I've never tried Benefit and would like to know what you think of the gift set.Is the Benefit Cosmetics Bathina Set worth it?
I personally haven't used the gift set, but Benefit was the first makeup I have ever used and it made me breakout and made me look like a giant Madonna wannabe. I'd try something else if I wear you.

  • Where can I buy Benefit cosmetics in England?

I used to buy off Ebay but had a bad experience so wish to buy from a store. Does anyone know which stores stock this range?Where can I buy Benefit cosmetics in England?
Aha another benefit fan! They sell Benefit in Fenwick, Boots, Debenhams, Selfridges, Harvey Nichols, House of Fraser...in fact most self respecting department stores. You may need to go to a large boots to get Benefit but hopefully you'll be near one of the above stores. I would call them before hand just to make sure. Hope this helps. Good luck! On another note you may be interested to know that MeMeMe excl to Superdrug do a line of cosmetics that is almost identical to Benefit. Personally I use to use Benefit all the time. It also helped that my best mate was manager of the Selfridges stand in London. She has left now and says she swears by MeMeMe as its exactly the same but a fraction of the cost. Try Beat the Blues for a good alternative to High beam. Toodle pip!Where can I buy Benefit cosmetics in England?
Selfridges and Boots on Oxford St (near Bond St tube) stock Benefit. They also have their own store on Westbourne Grove in London. I'm not sure if this is any use to you as you don't say where you live. Failing that try Boot's wesbsite, I'm pretty sure they stock Benefit.
Boots, High Street Kensington and Selfridges
    debenhams, peter jones
You can buy Benefit in Boots and Debenhams and House of Fraser department stores, some large cities may have other shops that stock it.

What are the qualifications to work at Benefit Cosmetics or MAC Cosmetics?

I'm 18 years old and I have a lot of experience doing make up for my proms, cotillions, weddings, and other special occasions and I would love to work at MAC or Benefit because those are the 2 brands I use. I would like to start off at a MAC counter or Benefit counter at Macys or Nordstrom but do I need other specific qualifications or requirements I need to meet in order to apply? Help please? What are the qualifications to work at Benefit Cosmetics or MAC Cosmetics?
I would try for Benefit, since they have a more limited amount of color. I have freelanced for MAC before, and they really do require more experienced artists, although it is true if you work at the counter they will send you to trainings.

I loved working in cosmetics, and I started at Clinique when I was 20. I have worked at Nordstrom, which is a great company to work for! Have fun, and Good Luck! What are the qualifications to work at Benefit Cosmetics or MAC Cosmetics?
Im a mac artist and most of the guys working here have a strong make-up backround. I personaly did training as a fashion make-up artist for two years and then started working for mac along side freelanceing.

Its tough to get into mac since is a very sought after job. You can progress in the company for many levels from events team (doing fashion week etc) to becoming a trainer or even one day a Pro Artist.

I would advise you to study and get some sort of qulification in fashion Make-up and to start building a portfolio to show off you're skills.

This isn't alwasy necesary but It will make you go further then others who have no done this.

    Good Luck
i think with your experience you could easily get a job with mac. mac sends u to makeup courses, so they will qualify u. my friend worked for mac, she had NO knowledge whatsoever, and they sent her to makeup courses for everything :)

What are well-known cosmetic and skin care brands that do not use animal-derived ingredients?

Berts Bees is a completely natural, all organic brand of products...skin and hair care and cosmetics. Akins natural foods sells it, and many walgreens do now as well. Oh, also borders books. It is all completely natural, pure, clean, and actually healthy for your skin. Origins, usually in the mall or dillards, and The Body Shop both make great products that use no animal derived ingredients, the only difference is that these products are not all natural ingredients. There are also other brands of all natural organic products you can browse is any major natural foods/health store. Akins Natural Foods has a return policy on everything, you don't like it, it didn't work, you were allergic, doesn't matter, they'll take it back. Do you know any brands which still use animal ingredients? like cosmetic brands..?

Don't know the names of the brands as I don't use make-up, but whilst researching this a couple of years ago I found that every type of make-up had some sort of animal product in them. Mostly casein or linolin, which is from milk and wool. Also, most products are tested on animals, if not the finished product then its ingredients. There are vegan cosmetic products available. Type ';vegan cosmetics'; or similar into Google and you will find lots of sites.Do you know any brands which still use animal ingredients? like cosmetic brands..?
of course a guy will tell you that your mascara is bat poop or your lipstick is whale blubber but it isnt.

thats just about as stupid as your stupid axe spray is made from cow farts! it smells like sh*t anyway.

mascara is made from powder and minerals and color.

I need to find the ingredients to Sonia Kashuk eyeshadows. I've looked online and can't find anything. Any help?

    Here's the situation:

My eyelids are extremely sensitive to most eye shadows--one day of wearing eye shadow, and I'm fighting a red itchy rash for two weeks.

The dermatologist diagnosed this as contact dermatitis, meaning I'm allergic to one of the ingredients of eyeshadow (Clinique, Physician's Formula, Almay, and one of the ';mineral'; styles). He advised me that if I want to identify the exact ingredient, I could have a patch test done (a 5 day allergy test where each individual commonly known allergen is ';painted'; on my back in little patches, and I'm checked for allergic reactions over the 5 days). I was going to do it, but wanted to wait until winter (you can't wash your back for the 5 day time period--ugh). Well, I just found out I'm pregnant, so no testing for me.Cosmetic ingredients needed?

How would I find out which ingredients are bad to have in soaps, shampoos , cosmetics, etc?

Is there some websites that I could look at to list all ingredients to avoid in shampoos, soaps, cosmetics? I'm trying to find natural and organic products, it seems that they make some now that are ';mostly natural'; but still contain some bad/chemical ingredients. Like Organix brand shampoos are better but still has bad stuff in it but it's hyped up to make u think it's all natural, same problem with Aveda . Anyway if you know what brands are completely natural, or you know where I could find out, websites, etc, please tell me. Thank you, I would appreciate any help. How would I find out which ingredients are bad to have in soaps, shampoos , cosmetics, etc?
There is a great book called ';Dying to look young';. I'm sorry I can't remember who wrote it. Makeup wise, I recommend a mineral powder. I sell Avon and I can tell you, the Avon brand of mineral makeup is total B.S. There are still preservatives in a lot of those so you have to really check the ingredients. I use Color Connection by Seven Arrows LLC. Its a Utah company but I think you can order it online. • Why do company's use carcinogenic ingredients in food and cosmetic products?

Because they are part of an international plot to kill off people who ask silly questions? Why do company's use carcinogenic ingredients in food and cosmetic products?
you're pretty gullible, but if you want to, why not just avoid those products altogether and go natural? Why do company's use carcinogenic ingredients in food and cosmetic products?
    It's cheaper.

    These products function as preservatives.

They have not found a ';natural'; solution that works just as reliably (ie. natural anti preservatives).

I can see both sides of the coin. On the one hand, there are conflicting studies and some studies say that ingredient X causes cancer and some studies say that it does not. There's so much conflicting information that companies are not going to change their formulas and spend all of this new money to research alternatives when there's no real substantial proof that what they're using now causes cancer. And a lot of times, that ';natural'; stuff is just not as effective. I have used every natural deodorant on the planet and they don't work as well as regular products. I have tried every natural diet pill on the planet and none work. The only thing that has worked for me as prescription phentermine.

On the other hand, I don't want to use products that cause cancer if that is indeed the case.

But the way I look at it, our ancestors didn't use these ';Harmful'; products because these products had not yet been invented. Yet, they died at ages far earlier than humans do now. If you're looking for the fountain of health and youth, maybe you are barking up the wrong tree.
Because everything is carcinogenic these days.

What does 'alcohol denat.' mean, as listed as an ingredient on perfumes and cosmetics ?

I have a problem with an elderly relative who could be harmed by ingesting products containing alcohol, obviously we will try to make sure no dangerous substances are around but we wondered if this meant that alcohol was removed ? (Please note this is a serious question, no jokes or abuse please ! ) Thanks !What does 'alcohol denat.' mean, as listed as an ingredient on perfumes and cosmetics ?
That means they have added a poisonous substance to ethyl alcohol that would otherwise be drinkable. The alcohol is still there and the other ingredient (like wood alcohol) is there also.

Serious alcoholics would try to drink denatured alcohol even though they could go blind from that drink. What does 'alcohol denat.' mean, as listed as an ingredient on perfumes and cosmetics ?
That means denatured alcohol. See links below for additional information. It would be poison if ingested.
It is short for denatured alcohol.

Denatured alcohol is ethanol to which poisonous and foul-tasting chemicals have been added to make it unfit for drinking. There is more than one recipe for denaturing alcohol; some add methanol or isopropanol, some gasoline, and so on.
    That stands for denatured alcohol.
alcohol is not removed only other product added, this is usually done with food products, example, vanilla flavour if you add vanillan it is no longer ';pure'; ethanol it is usually done for excise (duty\tax) reasons, if it is denatured it cant be drunk as an alcoholic drink

yep Davy B it does cook off, the alcohol is just the carrier

same way perfume/ fragrance ';cooks off'; it just leaves the fragrance

i agree sherry trifle Mmmmmm more please
Denatured alcohol means it is not for consumption. I think this is usually accomplished by adding methyl alcohol which is poisonous.
That means denatured alcohol. What they do is make the alcohol undrinkable to avoid certain types of people (small kids and drunks) doing damage to themselves - they do this by adding a chemical called Denatonium Benzoate which is the most bitter tasting substance known.

It only takes a tiny amount added to pure ethanol to make it incredibly foul tasting and undrinkable.
Denatured alcohol is alcohol that has been made non-consumable by adding toxic alcohol to it to keep someone from drinking it. If enough of it is consumed it can be deadly and there is no way to make it non toxic, before it is drank or after.
Denatured alcohol is methylated spirits (but without the mauve dye). It's harmful for anyone to swig cosmetics whether they are old or not.
denatured alcohol is something that oxygen was removed from
nzcrusty has a good point but any alcohol added to cakes etc will probably largely cook off. But sherry trifle now that's a different matter!

How often do pharmaceutical/cosmetic companies change product ingredients and do they notify customers?

I am involved with a skin care company. As a consultant we are always notified when product ingredients change. Then we share them with our clients. My company only changes a product when an ingredient can improve upon its results. Sometimes it takes years and somestimes not. Depending on the product and the ingredient. Luckly the company I am involved with is always looking to improve their products and is always on the cutting edge of anti aging and skin care.

Hope this helped. How often do pharmaceutical/cosmetic companies change product ingredients and do they notify customers?

You are a very patient woman to have typed out all those ingredients.

I have an interesting article at work about such ingredients and the health problems they can cause in women. Many are listed above. You should do an Internet search for something like... health concerns with cosmetic ingredients...and you will find informative websites. Unfortunately, it's difficult to find cosmetics that don't contain the above you have listed.

Ironically, I recently purchased a conditioning stick for protecting my pet's paws in the snow and it has only the best ingredients - all natural! I think I may try it on myself as a moisturizer, ha ha.Which of these ingredients in cosmetics or skincare is not good?
maybe the talc or the ammonium acolytes co polymer, it's hard to say Hun I'd suggest some kind of mineral make up
oh my goodness! every single ingredient is a harsh chemical! you can google each ingredient and pull up the msds sheets which tell you exactly, first of all, it contains parabens, a cheap synthetic preserving chemical which gives shelf life, parabens are actually being shown to cause cancer and have been banned in Europe. Sodium Laurel Sulfate is one of the worst, it is actually an industrial degreaser! why do you want that on your face??? Honestly, do not use this makeup anymore, besides what it is doing visibly, it is doing worse inside, accumulating in your bloodstream and fatty tissue and over time will cause illness and cancer.
I can't tell you which one made you have a reaction, but I can tell you which ones didn't. Titanium Dioxide is used in spf mineral make ups, Glycerine is for moisture, Xanthan Gum is to hold the product together. If I had to guess I would say the Petrolatum because it is an oil derived.

Seriously, look it up or read the ingredients on some of your make-up. Why do so many companies use harmful chemicals when there are safer, natural alternatives?!Did you know they put formaldehyde--along with many other harmful ingredients into cosmetics???

Yes, and they put it nail polish. It promotes the growth of nails. I don't use polish with formaldehyde in it.
that's why I use Bare Minerals
Yes I did know that... Did you know that all those frosted eye shadows and lipsticks are made glittery from ground-up fish scales? That's the truth.
    That is why I don't wear make-up.
I knew that, and I'm still not bothered about it. Companies don't care, they do what they can to make money
Many of the times the safer alternatives are more costly, and therefore cheaper chemicals are used for cost effectiveness. Formaldehyde is used to preserve cosmetics. I guess the most effective way to get away from using these harsh chemicals is to read labels.
Yes I did, this is not a news flash. The chemicals used in makeup and the processes by which they are tested have been up for debate for the last 30 years.

Mineral makeups have much fewer added chemicals as long as you get them in loose form. Pressed mineral makeup has waxes and oils added to make it stay in a cake.

    Hey all,

Need some help from the beauty care experts: been reading too much on the topic...sometimes ignorance really is bliss. Need to know what you think of the following ingredients commonly used in skincare products, rating their ';toxic'; factor: triethanolamine (TEA), parabens, ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate (sunscreen ingredient), benzophenone-3 (also a sunscreen ingredient), comfey extract. Thanks everyoneAre any of these cosmetics ingredients unsafe?
    Well I kno a few:

1.Comfrey is typically an anti-irritant ingredient.

2.thriethanolomine is a SPF but not that effective, it helps though.

3.The other sunscreen ingredients aren't very strong but will give you some protection.

  • What are the ingredients that make high-end cosmetics better/more effective than cheap cosmetics?

Thanks! What are the ingredients that make high-end cosmetics better/more effective than cheap cosmetics?
Many of them are made from expensive ingredients such as crushed pearls, caviar and exotic antioxidants extracted from rare plants like the Chilean evergreen tree.

Other popular components are anti-oxidants like grape seed extract, alpha lipoic acid, chamomile oils and green tea 鈥?protectants that are said to reduce skin damage from free radicals. Among the most important ingredients are customized cell messenger proteins such as peptides and epidermal growth factor that stimulate cell growth. What are the ingredients that make high-end cosmetics better/more effective than cheap cosmetics?
It depends. I was told ALL make-up pencils are actually made by the same company!

I don't think Lancome or Este' Lauder is really anymore effective than something cheaper. My sister uses both and her make-up and skin are not any better than mine (actually I have less wrinkles- we are 1 yr apart)

I have a favorite foundation that was the best ever (from John Robert Powers). I paid $100.00 for a couple Mary Kay products and it made my face so greasy, no matter what I switched to! I have found that $16.00 foundation, $10.00 lipsticks and $20.00 lotions are fine- I have great skin too, and I'm 42, look at my picture close-up.
There really isn't a real difference from products at the department store and at the drug store. You pay more for the brand name, packaging and marketing.

There may be different ingredients that seem fancy (green tea, olive oil, etc) but you basically get the same result. I use Revlon and Maybelline; I found that some of their stuff is much better than the expensive.
    I use Dermacia and its about $50 a BOTTLE. It really is worth it though and the ingredient is lycogel... no store brand cosmetics have it. But i do think that lancome is kindof a ripoff because loreal is the same thing... I dont think theres any real ';special ingredient';

Why Aren't cosmetic products or harmful cosmetic ingredients regulated by the FDA?

Medical journals and studies have shown that parabens (carcinogens) are in our cosmetics, in our lotions, shampoos, and in our underarm deodorants -- but nothing's been done to regulate that. Why?

In Europe these ingredients have been regulated, or banned altogether. Why Aren't cosmetic products or harmful cosmetic ingredients regulated by the FDA?
One word: Lobbyists. Why Aren't cosmetic products or harmful cosmetic ingredients regulated by the FDA?
Check out www.pristinerecovery.com. All-natural cosmetics. Many cosmetics have harmful chemicals in them. There are all-natural alternatives to these chemicals, but they cost more so companies don't use them. Report Abuse

There is actually no scientific proof that parabens are carcinogenic.

Concern about parabens arises from a small study in 2004 by British researchers which found traces of parabens in tissue taken from women with breast cancer. The tumours of only 20 women were tested, and for obvious reasons there was no control group.

The researchers claimed the study demonstrated that if people are exposed to parabens , the chemicals will accumulate in their bodies

However, this extremely small study doesn't demonstrate a direct causal link between deodorant or antiperspirant use and developing breast cancer. A study that small cannot be regarded as proof.

Many people avoid products with parabens to be on the safe side - I do myself, and did before my breast cancer diagnosis - but there is no proof of a link with cancer.

BTW, I live in Europe; parabens are still in most cosmetic items
I guess cause technically they are not called drugs. Go to

ewg.org and it lists all side effects of cosmetics. Use the skin deep report.

At least you'll know what to stay away from.

Does ELF cosmetics contain any bad ingredients?

Their brand is cheap, but is actually good, which makes me suspicious of why its so cheap. Does it contain anything bad?Does ELF cosmetics contain any bad ingredients?
The above answerer in this section named 'Sara' is wrong. E.L.F. currently does NOT test on animals. You can read more about it on eyeslipsface.com....obviously she has her facts jacked up.

There are no bad ingredients in ELF cosmetics. The answerer in this section named 'Starviolet beauty' pretty much covered why ELF is so affordable. I love ELF, I just wish they made more variety of products %26amp; colors.Does ELF cosmetics contain any bad ingredients?
The reason it's cheap is because:

    1) They spend as little as possible on packaging (you'd be surprised at how much the cost of packaging can add up to)

    2) They have very low overhead costs due to being an internet-based company (they don't have to pay for counter space, retail assistants, etc)

    3) They spend little on marketing (their main driver of awareness is word-of-mouth and online arenas such as YouTube)

    4) The amount of product you get in many cases is rather small (which is not always such a bad thing, as it lowers the price and means you can try lots of different items).

I'm not sure what you mean by ';bad'; ingredients, but ELF's ingredients are safe to use so there shouldn't be any concern about that.
Really its good? Have you tried the Mineral Foundation? I want to try it.
    Marissa,

The cheap packaging is not the only thing cheap. Try cheap ingredients. I tried them 2yrs ago, purchased a blush set and in about a month threw it away, too powdery, color pigmentation varied. You really get what you pay for.

Look at it this way: Would you go to an elegant dinner function wearing $20 of walmart clothes? Likely not. The same applies to makeup. Cheap makeup does not make you look good, just cheap. People can tell good makeup from cheap garbage. I guess if you are 11 you can start out with elf. But if you are a young woman, look to something a little more elegant. Plus they are made in China. After viewing youtube video on how Chinese test on animals like dogs/cats/rabbits/monkeys is inexcusable. No secret the Chinese are not exactly pet friendly. Sorry, but I don't want a poor animal to be tortured so that I can buy cheap garbage makeup. I don't want that on my conscience. Buying cheap makeup just continues the violent cycle. I know some makeup users simple don't care but I do. So you know.

What are the harmful ingredients in cosmetics should i look out for?

so far i've heard of iron oxide, ascorbyl palmitate, paraffin, red no 5What are the harmful ingredients in cosmetics should i look out for?
    PROPYLENE GLYCOL

Called a humectant in cosmetics, it is really ';industrial anti-freeze'; and the major ingredient in brake and hydraulic fluid. Tests show it can be a strong skin irritant. Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) on Propylene Glycol warn to avoid skin contact as it is systemic and can cause liver abnormalities and kidney damage.

SODIUM LAURYL SULFATE (SLS) and SODIUM LAURETH SULFATE (SLES)

Potentially, SLS is perhaps the most harmful ingredient in personal-care products. SLS is used in testing-labs as the standard skin irritant to compare the healing properties of other ingredients. Industrial uses of SLS include: garage floor cleaners, engine degreasers and car wash soaps. Studies show its danger potential to be great, when used in personal-care products. Research has shown that SLS and SLES may cause potentially carcinogenic nitrates and dioxins to form in the bottles of shampoos and cleansers by reacting with commonly used ingredients found in many products. Large amounts of nitrates may enter the blood system from just one shampooing.

BENTONITE or KAOLIN - Clays in foundations that may clog and suffocate the skin.

GLYCERIN - Draws moisture from inside the skin, and holds it on the surface for a better ';feel';. Dries skin from the inside out. Listed on MSDS as hazardous

Titanium Dioxide - Derived from animal skins and ground-up chicken feet. Both of these ingredients form films that may suffocate and over-moisturize the skin. BAR SOAPS Made from animal fat and lye. May let bacteria feed and grow in it. May corrode %26amp; dry the skin.

Many of the hyped ingredients found in most cosmetic brands cannot penetrate the skin because of their high-molecular weight, so they are of little benefit. For example: procollagen, collagen, elastin, cross-linked elastin, and hyaluronic acids...

it is easy! most companies that do not test on animals want to advertise this great fact and so if it is not tested on animals generally it will say somewhere on the label near the ingredients.
honey, you are going to have a hard time finding makeup like that... you not wearing the makeup won't stop the companies,,,so you might as well use it.

They all operate a fixed cut-off date for tests done on ingredients (eg: no tests carried out since 1978 on ingredient x). This is widely accepted by anti-vivisection organisations across the world as the best judge of what is and is not 'animal tested.' A 'rolling rule' is not acceptable because it does not rule out further animal tests on the given product/ingredient.

.Do you think that cosmetics can be so dangerous? and what about hair color?
I'm gonna get OLD- fast ENOUGH, without putting chemicals all over my face to HELP the aging process along... And if you have a ';problem'; with the color of your Hair- maybe the solution lies three or four inches UNDER the scalp, %26amp; NOT just above it... Fix THAT, %26amp; maybe the color of your hair won't matter... :0
    DANGEROUS . ESPECIALLY HAIR COLOUR
i read the article, but i highly doubt the high end costmetic lines would use ';arsenic'; as an ingredient, that would be like SUICIDE and people would know about it asap.
Cosmetics are unbelievably dangerous. I've spoken to a toxicologist about this. There is no government group that checks for the safety of cosmetics. That's why we have to spend hours researching cosmetic products we buy in order to ensure safety.

Hair color is especially dangerous. Cancerous, actually. The product is left on your scalp for a very long time, giving it enough time to penetrate your skin and enter the nerves in your scalp. By the way, your scalp has plenty of nerves!

This is dangerous because the chemicals will circulate through your system and be deposited in one of your organs (I can't recall which one). Believe it or not, you can get cancer from this.

What cosmetic-non surgical measures does a male with thinning hair have to insert artificial shorter hair?

Like are putting tracks or inserts of small artificial hair plugs throughout the hair to add body and volume to hair an option?? I am a male with global thinning and just wanting my thick full head of hair back...What are my options with adding fake hair to my scalp???What cosmetic-non surgical measures does a male with thinning hair have to insert artificial shorter hair?
Sorry....there are no non surgical options

Can you get cosmetic surgery for your hair?

Can you get some kind of cosmetic surgery to give you nicer hair? I'm not thinning or anything like that. I just naturally have really thin and fine hair and I hate it! Is there anything you can do to change that? besides ';thickening shampoos'; and volumizersCan you get cosmetic surgery for your hair?
    Hi,

I'm not really sure. You can get surgery, but not cosmetic. You can get extensions put in your hair by surgery, sort of. It's not surgery like if you got Botox or anything.

There's nothing that can make your hair ';prettier'; though. That's your own. A hairdresser can give you more volume, thin it, or make it thicker. Ask someone about local hairdresser's. I'm sure one will be good enough to make your hair thicker. Good luck! Can you get cosmetic surgery for your hair?
Aha, don't believe there is a surgery.

You can get sew-in/clip in hair extensions if you are wanting more volume though.
You can use a product called toppik for instant, fuller hair

    http://www.baldpill.com/Toppik-Hair-Fiber-Spray.php

Or of course, there is hair tranplant surgery. You can transplant more hair follicles which will give you a fuller head of hair

Has anyone used Advanced Cosmetic Technologies hair color?

If you have what did you think about it? Were you happy with the results?Has anyone used Advanced Cosmetic Technologies hair color?
I use it on a regular basis and love it. It makes my hair very soft and shiny. It covers my gray hair (and I'm way too young to have gray but I do, unfortunately). I make sure to buy it before it's time to touch up the roots so they don't grow out too much. I have to touch up every 2 months or so. But to answer your question, yes I'm happy with the results.Has anyone used Advanced Cosmetic Technologies hair color?
It was a revolution in cosmetic technology.

I want as much feedback as I can get, and would LOVE if you could give me your thoughts (positive and negative accepted) as I understand everyone will have different opinions! Sounds like a good idea.....

    Go for it...

What cosmetic procedure makes the biggest impact - getting teeth fixed, botox or new hair do?

Not sure which of these to invest in. Hair would cost a lot because of the look I have in mind. Teeth need silver fillings replaced with white, plus a bridge. Botox for frown lines. Which of the one should I focus on?What cosmetic procedure makes the biggest impact - getting teeth fixed, botox or new hair do?
Getting the grill fixed should be the priority. Once she is able to smile without covering her mouth, she will have the self esteem to wait until she can get the Botox. So, I think teeth first, hair second, and then Botox. What cosmetic procedure makes the biggest impact - getting teeth fixed, botox or new hair do?
I think hair will make the biggest impact. You can change your whole look by just changing your hair.

Is there any type of cosmetic procedure to make my hair grow in a different direction?

In instead of out? Ouch!Is there any type of cosmetic procedure to make my hair grow in a different direction?
No. Buy a wig or two or three. Is there any type of cosmetic procedure to make my hair grow in a different direction?
    LOL no.

But after a wash if you continuously brush and set the way you want, after a while it will go that way.

I do not know your age, but if you start early, it is easier.

Like if you part the hair at a place, after a few years the hair goes either way from that parting. This is an example only.

    keep trying.
No, your hair grows in a circle pattern. You might try using a gel when you hair is wet and brush it in the direction you want it to go when you blow-dry. Then, use hairspray to get it to stay put when the wind blows.

Can you tell me which widely available cosmetic brands (skincare, makeup, hair, etc) DO NOT use animal testing?

I want to use animal-safe product, but I do not know which brands are animal-friendly.

Is is true that L'Oreal still uses animal testing? Can you tell me which widely available cosmetic brands (skincare, makeup, hair, etc) DO NOT use animal testing?
    Great question!

    http://www.caringconsumer.com/pdfs/compa鈥?/a>

This site has a list of tons of products that don't do animal testing.

Thanks for looking and caring for animals.

    As for L'Oreal,

L'Oreal stopped animal testing on its entire range of cosmetic products fourteen years ago.

Last year alone, we spent over 拢lOm on funding alternatives to animal testing and have achieved some important successes, especially linked to the development of reconstructed skin models. These human skin models, developed from human skin cells by means of in vitro techniques, are used to obtain a better understanding of the biological mechanisms of skin and to evaluate the efficacy and tolerance of our products.

For twenty years we have supported both UK and international research organisations in the search for alternative safety testing methods. Moreover, we have also co-operated with our competitors in this common objective. Can you tell me which widely available cosmetic brands (skincare, makeup, hair, etc) DO NOT use animal testing?
    Laura Mercier for sure.

Most products in drug stores tests on animals. Thats why i dont really shop in there and only at department stores. Check on the back and if it says ';not tested on animals'' than obviously its not tested. =] Report Abuse

Here's the thing: Many big brands that have developed only in the last 20 years or so (Bath %26amp; Body Shop is an example) make that claim. But older companies such as Revlon, Clairol, Max Factor, etc. were around in the 50's and 60's when animal testing was normal and expected for safety reasons - too many new chemicals! So even if they no longer do animal testing, they are unable to make that claim. And the new companies that use the same ingredients that the older companies did all the groundwork testing on, they get away with making that claim. Or they say ';Finished product is not tested on animals.'; I'm just saying that these newer companies aren't virtuous. They just didn't do all the dirty work that the older companies had to do to determine which chemicals were safe for human contact.
    http://www.uncaged.co.uk/crueltyfree.htm

Wait, L'Oreal does. And it now owns the body shop, so...
L'oreal i'm not that sure about. Dove doesnt't use animal stesting nor does E45, but that's all i know of.

    Hope i've helped.

    GLO MINERELS
Urban Decay does not test on animals and their brushes are animal-friendly (they don't use animal hair). They also have a wide range of products that are ';vegan,'; containing no animal products.

In addition to not testing on animals, they affirm that none of their suppliers have tested raw materials on animals, which is probably much more important. 100% cruelty free throughout the production of their cosmetics.

They have *the* best eye shadows, to boot!
Clinique is the only one i've found, and they are the best for my skin which is very sensitive.

They are pricey.. but if you can afford it, they are well worth it.

Not sure which ones - I remember Avon saying they would stop using animal tested products. But can't say for sure.

Is there a way to get rid of excess facial hair without buying any cosmetics? shaving? or laser surgery?

cause i would really like to know. lol.

i have a little bit of hair on my face, upper lip, and on my neck, and i really hate it sooo much. i tried using those creams and i hated it, cause i have sensative skin and it always burned me, and now i just shave it off, but i hate that too haha. well thanks for listening to my embaressing problem!!Is there a way to get rid of excess facial hair without buying any cosmetics? shaving? or laser surgery?
I have this embarrassing problem, too. Sometimes I pull out the hair with tweezers when I am feeling especially patient. Usually I just shave it. It is the cheapest, fastest, easiest way. It is an old wives tale that shaving makes it grow back in thicker or faster. Is there a way to get rid of excess facial hair without buying any cosmetics? shaving? or laser surgery?
I don't recommend shaving with a razor because, it doesn't make it grow in thicker, but you are cutting it at the base which is the thicker part of the hair, so then you have stubble. I think those wax strips for the face are really effective. And you don't need to spread it because it's already there, just press the plastic together to warm it up and then peel it, stick and pull. Easy.

Also, there is a thing that looks like a pen, Personal Touch I think is a brand, and it shaves but in a softer way. It's battery powered and you just lightly brush it on the face to eliminate the fuzz.
Plucking (tweezing), Shaving, Depilatory creams and Waxing are temporary hair removal methods. Waxing usually lasts for 3 weeks, but it is painful. Electrolysis and laser hair removal are ';permanent'; hair removal methods but are expensive and you have to find a trained professional, otherwise your skin could be damaged. A review of the various hair removal methods is available at http://www.hairremoval.in

  • Lush cosmetics henna? which one to use to dye my charcoal black hair to a brown color?

    Hi, guys

For those of you have tried using lush henna for hair, i wanted to ask this question. I have very black hair and I wanted to make it a brown color but NOT RED!!!! It seems that most of the henna on sale on the www.lushcosmetics.com website is for light hair...Could you suggest which henna should I use (which ones i could mix) to get a rich brown color...thankyouLush cosmetics henna? which one to use to dye my charcoal black hair to a brown color?
To go lighter than your natural color you first have to remove color

So henna will make your hair have red highlights in the sun , but not red hair.

Nothing will really work on dark hair without bleaching first.Lush cosmetics henna? which one to use to dye my charcoal black hair to a brown color?
There is a CACA NOIR (more blue-black) and there is a browm version too, it is like a reddish brown. MY mom has used them both and found the reddish brown worked pretty well, but it does fade fast. Also, once you use it, forget about using any drugstore haircolours like Nice and Easy, etc, because the colour will not even stick to it...so think twice before using any product and call Lush, they are quite helpful.

    Good luck!

ok......u dont need $400...buy make up from avon...mark.....ummm the only thing i say is go to mac %26amp; get the compact...that just $24, %26amp; all the eyeshadows i have r from avon...they go on sell for like 4.99 %26amp; it has 4 diff shades... i dont know bout u but i dont cake on my make up soo dont goo all crazy with it, %26amp; as for the hair... stay with what u got girly ur going to look hot with the make up anyways.....
400 Dollars on Extensions!! Are you crazy! Go to a Beauty College and get them done. Its so much cheaper. I just got mine put in Saturday. 7 Bucks a track, can't beat it. They do just as good a job because they are being supervised. I love spending money on make ,but don't spend too much because looks change very quickly you don't want to be left with $400 worth of last seasons makeup.
I think hair extentions, cuase if you look like your advatar your soo pretty, and yopu dont look like you need $400 worth of make-up maybe a cute lipgloss or something to go with your new long hair would be nice, but if i had to chose definitly the hair over the make-up cuase to much makeup is ugly.
both....get a make over and your hair done
i think you should spend thanksgiving at a homeless shelter or some such in what ever city that you live in and get a grip on reality. you have way to much money to waste...i am sure you have beautiful, clean hair and avon, revlon or any other cosmetic company makes good stuff without the hype..
i would get hair extensions... you can always but cheaper makeup and look just as good, but you never want to get a cheap weave
id get extensions, only b/c u can get the same look with any make up
Product revews, price comparison and best price.

I think you should save your money and spend some on makeup. I honestly don't think you shoud waste 400 bux on makeup....or hair extensions
I would spend it on the makeup. Make up, especially nice make up, would last longer than the extensions. Also, when getting hair extensions you should only get the best because if you go to a cheap place they can absolutly ruin your hair. Trust me, unless you have a hair stylist whos a god, you wont find someone who does great extensions for $400. Make up is so much better in my opionion. mmk hope this helped. =)
on MAC Cosmetics!!! it's so worth it!
In general, if your hair (which frames your face) looks great, you could have almost no makeup on (and assuming you take great care of your skin) you will look great!

You don't neccesarily need to spend $400....why not try checking out the beauty product review site for all women of color www.palacinka.com, with thousands of beauty product reviews from over 300 of the world's top brands! Why do I as a black women have to shop elsewhere, for my hair & cosmetic products in multicultural London?

I saw all kinds of stuff at Boots though. Right? I thought I saw things everywhere. Anywayz. Why do I as a black women have to shop elsewhere, for my hair %26amp; cosmetic products in multicultural London?
I'm not sure where you've been looking.

Selfridges, Debenhams etc all have the Iman and Mac range of cosmetics that cater for dark skin tones. Iman is a black woman catering for black women so I recommend you have a look at her range of products.

As for hair, when it comes hair products, they are definitely available, you just need to know what you're looking for. A lot of products these days are now addressing Afro-carribean hair. It will take a while to read the labels to find the right product for the effect you want, but they are there. Boots superstores tend to have a good range.

As for braiding, only a place that specialises in braiding will ever do a decent job. It just so happens that braiding salons are run by black people - because they know how to do it better than anyone else.

In my opinion going to a specialist store for your hair and cosmetic needs, away from the main high street stores is better. They are cheaper and you get better expertise. Mainstream purhasing only makes you spend more - and the Iman range is NOT cheap! Why do I as a black women have to shop elsewhere, for my hair %26amp; cosmetic products in multicultural London?
you can shop at super drugs, i was amazed the othe day when i found dark and lovely in there, but other wise in london there is a range of shops that specialise in afro-hair products, i''ve got a choice of 3 shops in leicester, when i live in loughborugh there was none. its wrong and what about the food products u can find asian, italian, mexican and spanish etc etc, but afro-carribean wheres that???????????? it's not just london its the whole of england !!!

And its not just due to the amount of poeple that live in the area leicester has a very large afro-carribean community but there is a lack of the product you can find here!
Hey!!! I agree with you, i am mixed race and i cannot find make up that caters for my skin tone to be honest i dont wear make up at all, simply because of the fact i cannot find any thing for my skin.

It is ridiculous, there are so many cosmetics for caucasian women, and a limited choice for us dark skinned beauties, even when i open up any fashion magazine, there are the Loreal, and Maybelline foundation sachets for caucasian skin, i am not being funny or anything, but the world is full of different cultures and skin tones, so why the hell arent there any make up sachets for dark skin it isnt on!!

I can walk into superdrug, boots, and other hair and beauty stores, and you will get a shelf full of blonde products, such as John Frieda and Toni and Guy, and there are never any products for Afro Hair, and i have to go to Birmingham to purchase such products it is unbelievable!

I walked into Toni and Guy and asked if they style Afro Hair, they look bewildered, the person i spoke to asked assistant if they can style my hair, what do i get? a no, we dont!! thats unacceptable, if you are a fully trained, and qualified hair dresser, you should be able to style any type of hair!

I know where you are coming from and it isnt on, it is frustrating that in 2006, there is such a limited range of beauty products for dark skinned women in the mainstream market, and seeing as we are a multicultural society, these beauty companies need to up their game and give US a wider choice!!!

Its not like we are looking for the sympathy vote here, we are being excluded from the mainstream cosmetic and hair industry, what is going on?
my sister gets her kids hair and beauty things from the pound shops and also superdrugs
Gee, sounds like a marketing opportunity. Is this something you or one or more of your friends might be interested in looking into? A little shoppe someplace with the best of black hair care and cosmetics from around the world?
because u choose to. you can go to boots and superdrugs to buy hair and cosmetic products. I go to hair salons to buy my hair products eg: ghd, paul mitchell, kerastase.

just because you are black does not mean that you have to trek around london to buy beauty and hair products. but you do so because you want to I have great hair and skin and dont black only products.
Are you saying there is nowhere in London where you can buy hair products and cosmetics ? Selfridges, Oxford Street have the largest Cosmetic Hall in Europe, and brands like Mac - which are very popular with black women - have displays the size of a normal shop. I was there 2 months ago, and it happened that most assistants on the Mac counter were black. The ranges of most international cosmetics companies have shades for every human hue - why ? Because they are businesses, they want to sell to you, they want your money. For more esoteric products, the Stroud Green Road, Brixton and loads of other inner London suburbs have heaps of African and Asian hair products and cosmetics.

Racism exists and must be resisted where we find it. But don't go looking for it.
OMGOOODNESS.. i was asking this saaamme question the other day...its jus not fair, but hey its starting to change, i mean tesco now sell dark and lovely relaxer...thats an improvement right, but then again black people are seen as the underdogs (and i aint tryna start a debate) so why would anyone want to accomodate us...?
Good question ya know that they are classifying it as coarse textured hair instead of African American hair instead now days, so you should be able to find it anywhere hair products are sold.
    You are having a laugh...right?

There are shops all over the place in London that deal entirely in afro-Caribbean hair products. Most of the hairdressers outside the one mile radius of central London are now occupied by Afro-Caribbean hairdressers.

Boots, super-drugs %26amp; even many smaller establishments cater for Afro-Caribbean hair also. I reckon you must be walking around with your eyes closed Babe.
    Same reason white women do.
Because black women do not need makeup and there hair is already curly so why would you need to do your hair in my opinion i think black women are lucky they are all ready dark so they do not need makeup and their hair is perfect. What more do you want?
    Try boots!
What do you mean by elswhere?

In Harrow there are heaps of places you can get the stuff. Because the make up (pun?) of the community allows for it.

    It's a marketing thing.

If you as a black person need the product and there is demand it will be met. If not it won't. Same applies worldwide methinks.
racist racist, what a bunch of sad people, blame everything on racism.Since there less black people they wouldn't have shops that sell black products, they wouldn get sales. Do u think ur so special that they must now make and sell product ESPECIALLY for a minority of people shame poor you, i really do feel sorry for u. getover your blackness! omg!

Yeah i read the answers above and, yeah if u so upset about not having african shops then open a SHOP YOURSELF! like the HARD WORKING asians, mexicans ect

I just got my hair done at aveda salon today & I loved it, are thier skincare and cosmetics any good?

I just got my hair done at aveda today and I bought the be curly and the shampoo %26amp; cond for curly hair. I saw that they had cosmetics and skincare. I currently use clinique, but since i became pregnant it has made my face really flaky, nooot dry, just flaky, so I was wondering if aveda's products were any good, as in thier cosmetics and skincare. I have never used them before, but all the girls at the salon were wearing aveda cosmetics and it looked ok. Natural. Not bad, but they were trying to sell me everything for my face, I want a second opinion before I DROP my paycheck there!I just got my hair done at aveda salon today %26amp; I loved it, are thier skincare and cosmetics any good?
I love Aveda products, but I have noticed their color seems to be a bit darker than it looks, so try on first!!

Do not let them push you into buying anything, take your time, and sample before you buy!

Also when I was pregnant, some of the smells were a bit too strong for me, another thing to keep in mind!I just got my hair done at aveda salon today %26amp; I loved it, are thier skincare and cosmetics any good?
thier products are great for all hair types and textures
I would reccomend Aveda to anyone - They have an excellent skin care line - I also love their hair products, especially the scent of the pomade(for hair styling)
Aveda skin care and cosmetic products are definitely something you should invest in. Whenever I use the products it made my face look natural, smooth, and silky. It's absolutely something you should look into buying.

    :D

    Hope this helps.
I don't like their cosmetics, but the skincare is good. Maybe try getting a facial there before you buy any, so you know how it feels. Their clay mask is really good, and they have great lip balm.

I don't know what area you're in, but they also have Aveda institutes, which are cometology schools. Many of these have spas included and you can get a really cheap facial, wax, haircut, etc there. Much cheaper than the Aveda and other ';high end'; salons because students do all the work.
Aveda is a very very good product.

Why don't cheaper cosmetics/creams/hair products work as well as high end ones from Neiman/Nordstroms?

Popular sayings were that cheaper cosmetics worked just as well as higher end ones. Not so true! I've sampled and used SO many from high end cosmetics to low end, and at the end of the day what I find is that higher end cosmetics definitely work better, though are 10x more expensive than lower end cosmetics.

When I used products from L'oreal, Oil of Olay, Neutrogena, Aveeno, Dove, and millions of other middle of the road, and even lower end products, I noticed that they really didn't do anything really for treating aging, lines, etc. They are ok for moisturizing, sunblock, and all that stuff, but when it comes to SERIOUS skin care, and plastic surgery like results, they do NOT deliver.

However when I used higher end products from Neiman/Nordstroms, I find that they work SO well some of them, that you end up having a flawless complexion and they even make you look younger too.

In short: They work MUCH better.

Not all, there are some higher end cosmetics that are total ripoffs but,

is there just more research time and development put into higher end cosmetics?

If we're serious about skincare, should we spend the money on one or two of the higher name brands, and just ditch the lower stuff altogether?

Same goes for hair and hair products.

    Any advice?

When you get your hair ';professionally'; done and use those professional products, your look is 10x better than if you were to buy your own dye and do it yourself etc.

Why don't cheaper cosmetics/creams/hair products work as well as high end ones from Neiman/Nordstroms?
the ';professional'; products tend to have higher priced ingredients and also contain more of the active ingredient. when it comes to hair, the professional color lines use ingredients that are less damaging and more conditioning to hair. but don't forget the people at the salon know how to formulate color and style hair. there's more to it then people think. hope this helped a little!

    lucky duck,

Is goat hair cosmetic brushes good for the skin and is it softer and is it better then other hair?

I think their pretty good synthetic is usually cheaper though but if you got the cash go for the actual hair. I think real hair might last longer. If you are a guy wearing make up hopefully you only wear foundation, concealer and powder. I think anything else on guy is way too much. But the only diffrence i could see in brushes would be how rough they are and sturdy like the qynthetic brushes loose hair all the time. Goat hair might last longer. Is goat hair cosmetic brushes good for the skin and is it softer and is it better then other hair?
Goat hair is very good, or synthetic hair is quite goodIs goat hair cosmetic brushes good for the skin and is it softer and is it better then other hair?
Not really. EcoTools have the best cosmetic brushes. Plus, they're really affordable.
    I perfer synthetic..and your a guy lol
They are excellent brushes, and last longer than synthetic brushes.
